What NABH Certification Means for You as a Patient

Prime Hospital Clinical Team · Ramgarh, Jharkhand

When you walk into Prime Hospital, you will see the NABH certification logo displayed prominently. But what does it actually mean — and why should it matter to you as a patient or family member choosing where to seek care?

NABH stands for the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers. It is the highest quality accreditation a hospital can achieve in India, issued by the Quality Council of India. Prime Hospital holds NABH Entry Level SHCO certification (Certificate No. PESHCO-2022-5707, valid through March 2027).

NABH Is Not a Formality — It Means Every Process Is Audited

Getting NABH certified is not easy. An independent NABH assessor team visits the hospital and evaluates hundreds of standards across every department — from how medicines are stored, to how infections are prevented, to how patient complaints are handled, to whether surgeons follow a pre-operative checklist.

If standards are not met, the hospital does not get certified. There is no shortcut.

What NABH Standards Cover

Here are some of the key areas NABH assessors examine:

  • Patient rights — You have the right to know your diagnosis, treatment options, costs, and expected outcome in a language you understand.
  • Medication safety — Medicines are stored at the right temperature, dispensed correctly, and checked before being given to patients. High-risk drugs are double-checked.
  • Infection control — Hand hygiene compliance, sterilisation of instruments, and isolation of infectious patients are all measured and audited.
  • Surgical safety — Surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing staff follow the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist before every operation.
  • Emergency preparedness — Crash carts, emergency medicines, and staff training for cardiac arrest and other crises are checked.
  • Staff qualifications — Credentials of all doctors, nurses, and technicians are verified. Only qualified staff perform procedures they are trained for.
  • Patient discharge process — You receive written discharge instructions, follow-up appointments, and medication lists when you leave.

What It Means for Your Safety

Studies consistently show that NABH-certified hospitals have lower rates of hospital-acquired infections, medication errors, and surgical complications. The systems are in place not because someone is watching — but because they are built into the daily routine of every staff member.

For you as a patient, this means:

  • Your medical records are accurate, complete, and confidential.
  • The right medicine at the right dose reaches you — verified twice.
  • Your operation is preceded by a safety checklist that confirms the right procedure on the right patient.
  • If something goes wrong, there is a documented process for reporting, reviewing, and preventing recurrence.

NABH and Insurance

NABH accreditation is also recognised by government health schemes and insurance companies. CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) and most TPAs give preference to NABH-certified hospitals. Prime Hospital's NABH status was a key factor in the CGHS empanelment recommendation received in April 2026 — meaning government employees and pensioners can access cashless treatment here.

Prime Hospital — The Only NABH Hospital of Its Kind in Ramgarh
